Hi Tony
We are currently on holiday on our first ever trip to Bali. We arrived at our hotel at 1am and got to bed about 2am so as you can imagine we were reasonably fatigued as we finally ventured out of the hotel around midday to explore our environment. We hadnt made it 100 metres when we got approached by a very affable, enthusiastic fellow who 'escorted us' to the marshalling pen where we met Jason - an ex-pat who had married a Balinese woman (!). 3 long, tedious hours later we were finally told the price (
f*@k!) and when we said 'thanks but no thanks', they quickly lost interest in us and we were ushered out the door.
Thank Christ, we said no as I must admit Jason turned on every bit of charm he had and was quite persuasive even down to being falsely empathetic with us at being nabbed on our first day - we are both mature, educated and professional people and as I read your posting plus the other emails I felt a little embarassed that we had nearly been hustled so blatently. Anyway, I guess I can take comfort in the fact that we were only one of many who had been 'abused' in this manner.
Thanks
Rose and Rob
